Chris Kuper is one of the longest tenured players on the Denver Broncos roster and has been a mainstay at right guard since 2008. As a fifth round pick in 2006, though, fans may forget it took Kuper two seasons playing in the role of “versatile backup” to land in his starting role. Kuper rode the bench his rookie year, then backed up Chris Myers at left guard, then was slotted as starting right tackle before ultimately landing at right guard. Today, he’s often heralded as one of the most underrated players in the NFL.
2011 Analysis: Kuper started in all sixteen regular season games at right guard with his usual consistency. He had tough games against the Lions‘ Ndamukong Suh (pictured) and against the Buffalo Bills‘ Marcel Dareus, but he’s considered one of the best Broncos’ offensive linemen for a reason. He’s fierce in the running game and more than decent as a pass protector. That being said, the 2011 season is difficult to grade for all Broncos O-linemen. The switch in scheme from a pro offense to the option netted rushing totals one cannot directly link to the performance of the offensive line.
Contract Status: Kuper signed a six-year, $ 28 million deal in 2010. He is owed $ 3.5 million in 2012 and will become a free agent in 2016.
2012 Outlook: Incumbent starter. Kuper suffered a gruesome season-ending broken leg in the regular season finale against Kansas City that caused him to miss out on the Broncos’ two postseason games. He recently told the Denver Post he expects to be 100% ready by June.

Smith elected to Broncos' Ring of Fame - SI.com
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) - Former Denver Broncos wide receiver Rod Smith has been elected into the team's Ring of Fame.
Smith, who set every major receiving record in franchise history, becomes the 23rd member of the Broncos to have his name etched into the inner facade encircling Sports Authority Field at Mile High. He will be inducted during a halftime ceremony on Sept. 23.
An undrafted player out of Missouri Southern, Smith finished his career with 849 catches for 11,389 yards receiving and 68 TDs.
Smith helped the Broncos to two Super Bowls and was a three-time Pro Bowl selection.
Said owner Pat Bowlen: "Players like Rod don't come through your door very often, but he came through ours every day with a purpose and hunger to be great.''

Tim Tebow Sends Cease And Desist Letter To 'MY Jesus' T-Shirt ...
You can make fun of him for his religion, you can praise him for his faith, but Tim Tebow would really appreciate it if you didn’t try to profit off of his religious beliefs. The new quarterback for the New York Jets has sent a cease and desist letter to a company selling “MY Jesus” t-shirts.
AntiMusic reports that the T-shirts don’t actually use Tim Tebow’s name or likeness, but the design is suspiciously similar to the NY Jets logo. The website for the MY Jesus T-shirts even states:
“This fun design is not officially endorsed by New York’s backup quarterback or the Son of God, but plays off the themes of Tebow’s faith and his new team.”
Regardless of the company’s statement, Tebow’s cease and desist letter claims that the shirt “makes it appear” that he is endorsing the product.
Tebow has successfully petitioned eBay to remove the shirts but the company, Cubby Tees, doesn’t seem to be backing down. Cubby Tees issued a response to the cease and desist letter saying that their product ”shares nothing with Mr. Tebow except for promotion of a common Lord and Savior.”
Tebow’s cease and desist letter has some fans accusing the Jets quarterback of “trying to own Jesus.”

Former Broncos WR Rod Smith elected to team's Ring of Fame - Washington Post
He’s just hoping he can keep his emotions under control.
“I’m going to try not to be (emotional), but it is a big deal,” Smith said. “It is a stepping stone in your life. It means you did something right. They don’t put your name (up there) if you didn’t go out there and represent yourself a certain way and you play with a certain passion for the game.”
A college free agent out of Missouri Southern, Smith finished his career with 849 catches for 11,389 yards receiving and 68 TDs.
He also helped the Broncos to two Super Bowls and was a three-time Pro Bowl selection.
“Players like Rod don’t come through your door very often, but he came through ours every day with a purpose and hunger to be great,” owner Pat Bowlen said. “Rod’s production and numbers — as outstanding as they were — paled in comparison to his commitment to winning and the respect he commanded from each and every one of his teammates throughout his career.”
Smith had a club-record eight 1,000-yard seasons. He also has three of the top-10 single-season reception totals in team history, including a 113-catch performance in 2001.
“Rod brought his lunch pail to work each day, took nothing for granted and made himself into an elite player,” said Broncos boss John Elway, who played with Smith. “He’s a true pro. In addition to being one of the greatest undrafted players of all time, he’s one of the greatest wide receivers to ever play the position.”
Smith’s last season was 2006 as an aching hip finally forced him to the sideline.
He spent his rookie season in 1994 on the Broncos’ practice squad. His first NFL reception was against the Washington Redskins on Sept. 17, 1995, when he hauled in a 43-yard pass from Elway as time expired to lift the Broncos to a 38-31 victory.
It was simply a glimpse of things to come.
Smith helped Denver to seven postseason appearances, three AFC West crowns and, of course, two Super Bowl titles. Even more, the Broncos had a 126-70 record in games in which Smith played.
“Although he had plenty of catches and touchdowns in his career, the only things that mattered to Rod were winning and competing for Super Bowls,” Elway said. “That’s what was most important to him, and it showed in everything he did. Whether it was in the passing game or running game, you always knew Rod would give 100 percent on every play and do whatever it took to help his team win.”
That’s because he played with a chip on his shoulder pads — and really always has.
“I was hungry. I stayed hungry. I’m still hungry now,” Smith said. “There is something about the human spirit, you just have to be hungry 24/7. A lot of guys now, and I’m a little bit on the outside — not too far removed — but a lot of those guys figure they have it made because they got to the NFL.
“I knew where I wanted to go and I knew I was going to outwork everyone else. When they were gone, I was still working. When they were asleep, I was still working. That right there — work — works. I tell people that all the time: work works.”
Now, he has to think of a way to top Shannon Sharpe’s Ring of Fame entrance. The Hall of Fame tight end made his appearance by parachuting into the stadium.
“I’m not coming in like that,” Smith cracked. “I can think of some real cool cars or something like that we can come in with — some stuff I probably wouldn’t buy myself, but Mr. Bowlen has the money so he might be able to just rent one for me. We’ll pass that along. I’m just throwing a little hint out there for some crazy, exotic car that nobody has seen and be able to come in that.
“But I’m not going to be jumping out of any plane, we can promise you that.”

Tim Tebow Threatens To Sue 'My Jesus' T-Shirt Maker - From Our ...
Tim Tebow is continuing his battle to protect his brand image, but he might be going a little too far this time. Representatives of Tim Tebow sent a cease-and-desist letter to the proprietors of cubbytees.com demanding they "immediately cease and desist from any use of Mr. Tebow's name and/or likeness on their site."

The T-shirt itself appears to bear no likeness to anything related to Tebow other than his well-known religious nature. However, the letter is not actually about the T-shirt in question (Letter PDF). As the first paragraph indicates, it came to the attention of Team Tebow "that [Cubby Tees has] been using the name of Mr. Tebow on your website ... to promote, advertise and sell numerous T-shirts."
The site appears to have been temporarily suspended, but according to TMZ, the site previously stated, "This fun design is not officially endorsed by New York’s backup quarterback or the Son of God, but plays off the themes of Tebow’s faith and his new team."
If that is what the website stated, they should be able to survive a legal challenge. The owners of Cubby Tees reportedly told TMZ they would not back down and have responded to the Tebow letter.

Rod Smith was the forger of a prolific career with the Denver Broncos, and now he’s being honored as such.
Smith has been elected as the 23rd member of the Denver Broncos Ring of Fame. The induction ceremony will take place during halftime of the Broncos’ Week 3 matchup against the Houston Texans on Sunday, Sept. 23rd.
The franchise’s all-time leader in receptions (849), receiving yards (11,389), and receiving touchdowns (68), Smith went from undrafted rookie to starter to fan-favorite through his unparalleled hard work, clutch performances, and motivating influence (see the “Rod’s Wisdom” section in the sidebar of the homepage of this very site, a feature displaying a random quote of Smith’s we’ve had in place since 2007).
“Players like Rod don’t come through your door very often, but he came through ours every day with a purpose and hunger to be great,” owner Pat Bowlen said. “Rod’s production and numbers—as outstanding as they were—paled in comparison to his commitment to winning and the respect he commanded from each and every one of his teammates throughout his career. Emerging from an undrafted player to one of the best to ever play his position, Rod has truly earned his place among the greatest Broncos of all time.
“I am thankful for everything Rod contributed to this franchise during his time with the Broncos, and I congratulate him on his well-deserved election to the Ring of Fame.”
Indeed, few players have made as great an impact for any one team as Rod Smith did for the Denver Broncos. The statistical totals may or may not ultimately fall short of a Hall of Fame election for Smith, but if there was an “upper tier” to Denver’s Ring of Fame, Smith could be fairly ranked among the likes of John Elway and Floyd Little in that highest echelon.
His election is a well-deserved honor for a living Broncos legend.

Rod Smith Elected To Denver Broncos Ring of Fame - Mile High ...
Former wide receiver Rod Smith, who was a part of 126 total wins and two Super Bowl titles while setting every major receiving record with the club from 1994-2007, has been elected as the 23rd member of the Denver Broncos Ring of Fame. Owner & CEO Pat Bowlen made the announcement on Thursday after meeting with the selection committee.
The induction ceremony will take place on Sun., Sept. 23, at halftime of the Broncos' home game against the Houston Texans at Sports Authority Field at Mile High (2:15 p.m. MDT kickoff).
"Players like Rod don't come through your door very often, but he came through ours every day with a purpose and hunger to be great," Bowlen said. "Rod's production and numbers-as outstanding as they were-paled in comparison to his commitment to winning and the respect he commanded from each and every one of his teammates throughout his career. Emerging from an undrafted player to one of the best to ever play his position, Rod has truly earned his place among the greatest Broncos of all time.
"I am thankful for everything Rod contributed to this franchise during his time with the Broncos, and I congratulate him on his well-deserved election to the Ring of Fame."
A three-time Pro Bowl selection (2000-01, '05), Smith played 183 regular-season games (158 starts) over 12 seasons while setting franchise records in receptions (849), receiving yards (11,389) and receiving touchdowns (68). He also owns the club's career postseason receiving marks with 49 receptions for 860 yards and six touchdowns in 13 playoff games (12 starts), including Denver's back-to-back Super Bowl Championships following the 1997 and '98 seasons.
Originally signed by the Broncos as a college free agent from Division II Missouri Southern University in 1994, Smith spent his rookie season on Denver's practice squad. His first NFL reception came against the Washington Redskins on Sept. 17, 1995, on a 43-yard catch from quarterback John Elway as time expired to give the Broncos a dramatic 38-31 victory.
Smith eclipsed the 1,000-yard receiving mark in six consecutive seasons from 1997-2002 and in a club-record eight seasons overall (also from 2004-05). His career totals include a franchise-best 30 100-yard receiving games in the regular season, including in a career-high eight contests during the 2000 season.
Following his final game as a Bronco at the conclusion of the 2006 regular season, Smith was ranked 11th in NFL history in career receptions (849), 17th in career receiving yards (11,389) and tied for 30th in career receiving touchdowns (68). His string of posting 70 or more catches for nine consecutive seasons (1997-2005) tied for the second-longest streak in NFL history, and his career reception and receiving yardage totals still lead all undrafted players in league annals.
He currently holds three of the Top-10 single-season reception totals in Broncos history, including a team-record 113 catches in 2001-his second of consecutive 100-catch campaigns. He also owns four of the Top-10 single-season receiving yardage totals in Denver annals, including a club-record 1,602 yards in 2000. Smith ended his career having caught at least one pass in a franchise-record 124 consecutive games-a streak that spanned more than seven seasons.
Smith finished his collegiate career at Missouri Southern with league records in receiving yards (3,043) and touchdowns (34) while breaking the school's receptions record (153). He totaled 63 catches for 986 yards (15.7 avg.) with 13 touchdowns as a senior and was named a first-team All-America selection in addition to finishing as a finalist for the Harlon Hill Trophy, given annually to the top football player at the Division II level.
He was named Missouri Southern's Outstanding Graduate in 1994 after completing his collegiate studies with three degrees: economics and finance, general business, and marketing and management. Smith was inducted into the school's Athletics Hall of Fame on Oct. 11, 2003.
Also a member of the Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame, Smith was an all-league, all-area and all-state selection as a senior at Texarkana High School in Texarkana, Ark., where he lettered twice in football and basketball and one in baseball. He was born on May 15, 1970.
Smith is the first former Bronco elected into the franchise's Ring of Fame since tight end Shannon Sharpe (1990-99, ‘2002-03) joined the distinguished membership in 2009. He is the third wide receiver to be elected to the Ring of Fame, joining Lionel Taylor (1984) and Haven Moses (1988) with that honor.
The Broncos Ring of Fame was created by Bowlen in 1984 to recognize former players and administrators who played significant roles in the franchise's history. The Ring of Fame is displayed on the Level 5 façade of Sports Authority Field at Mile High.

Former Denver Broncos wide receiver Rod Smith, who set every major receiving record with the club from 1994-2007, has been elected the 23rd member of the team’s Ring of Fame.

New York Jets defensive Back Darrelle Revis told the New York media yesterday that his new teammate Tim Tebow is a natural born leader.
“He’s a born leader,” Revis said about Tebow, according to the New York Daily News. “He really is. Very few athletes have the gift that he has. He tries to lead by example all the time and he tries to be positive, which is awesome. I think that results (in) his success on the field. He came in with Denver and did unbelievable. And now he’s with us. We’re happy. We’re excited for him. We’re happy (that) he’ll bring his leadership qualities to this team.”
New York acquired Tim Tebow via trade after the young quarterback’s former squad, the Broncos, signed Peyton Manning as a free-agent. Due to Tebow’s success in the 2011 season, many have speculated that he will challenge incumbent Jets starter Mark Sanchez for the starting position once the 2012 campaign begins. Jets management, however, has affirmed that Sanchez is slotted to be the team’s No. 1 quarterback.
Tebow led the Broncos to an 8-8 season last year, winning seven of 11 games after taking over as the team’s starter.

Tennessee Titans Aren't Worried About Kenny Britt's Latest Knee Surgery: Local ... - Yahoo! Sports
Tennessee Titans wide receiver Kenny Britt tore his ACL and MCL in his right knee during a regular-season game against the Denver Broncos on September 25, 2011. Britt has been making a rapid recovery as he was running in workouts at Baptist Sports Park fewer than eight months since his injury. ACL injuries normally take anywhere from 8-to-12 months to heal.
Titans general manager Ruston Webster is hoping that Britt will return during the 2012 NFL season. Britt appeared like he'd be ready by the regular-season opener. That should still be the case even after he elected to undergo a minor arthroscopic knee surgery that could sideline him for a few weeks. This is a regular procedure for any athlete who has undergone a major knee surgery.
The Titans must be cautious with any leg injuries from Britt. In addition to missing 13 games in 2011, Britt missed four games in 2010 because of a strained right hamstring. He also missed most of the 2011 preseason with another hamstring injury. Britt had experienced swelling in his knee shortly after he completed his workouts.
The downside to this surgery is that Britt might not be ready to participate at the beginning of training camp. That really shouldn't be an issue when one considers that he was off to the best start of his career despite missing most of the preseason. Britt had 17 receptions for 289 yards and three touchdowns before he injured his knee in 2011.
The Titans have approximately four months before their regular-season opener against the New England Patriots on September 9. They'll need all of their offensive weapons when they're trying to match points-for-points with Tom Brady and the Patriots' offense. The Titans will follow this up with games against the San Diego Chargers, Detroit Lions and Houston Texans.
I don't think fans should be concerned about this "Minor setback." I wouldn't be concerned unless he re-aggravated the injury. That isn't the case here. This is one of the final steps in returning the knee to a healthy state.
What does an inactive Britt mean for the Titans during training camp? More reps for the younger receivers like Kendall Wright, Damian Williams, Lavelle Hawkins and Marc Mariani. Nate Washington, Britt and Wright are locks for this team. There's no guarantee that they'd keep six receivers on their active roster. This means that Williams, Hawkins and Mariani must prove that they're worthy of a roster spot.
