Goodell Talks State of the League DenverBroncos.com

INDIANAPOLIS – At the NFL’s annual press conference, Commissioner Roger Goodell announced that NFL Network will televise five additional regular-season games next season as part of its Thursday Night Football package.
The network will carry Thursday night games in Weeks 2-11 and 13-15. NBC will carry the season-opening game in Week 1 on Thursday night and the Thanksgiving day primetime contest in Week 12.
“Adding these games to the NFL Network schedule will give more players, teams, and cities the primetime stage,” Commissioner Goodell said. “Our fans can now get an early start on the NFL weekend in the season’s first 15 weeks.”
As part of the Thursday Night Football schedule expansion, all 32 teams are guaranteed a primetime game next season.
GLOBAL GROWTH
Earlier this year, it was announced that the St. Louis Rams would host games in the United Kingdom for three consecutive seasons as part of the NFL’s International Series. The Rams are the first NFL team to commit to playing games abroad on a regular basis.
On Friday, Goodell announced that the popular channel NFL RedZone will be available in Spanish beginning next season. NFL RedZone is produced by NFL Network and shows viewers live look-ins to the various games in action on NFL Sundays.
The commissioner talked about making international growth a priority and opened up the possibility of playing games in Mexico and Europe in the future.
“There is a great deal of interest in Latin America to play a game,” Goodell said. “We would like to get back to Mexico with another regular season game. We’ve discussed it with our partners in Mexico and it is something we would like to get done sooner rather than later.”
Goodell said that the league wouldn’t expand its International Series without careful consideration and planning.
“This is all about a collective strategy to make our game more successful on a global basis, and the effort that we are putting in with the U.K., and London as an example, are all designed to build a model that is going to grow our game and its popularity in the U.K. If that’s successful, we will expand throughout Europe. The same thing is true in Mexico, and what we can do in Latin America if we’re successful there.”
SUPER FUTURE
Although the weather has been unseasonably warm in Indianapolis this week — and was unseasonably cold in Dallas last year — the 2014 Super Bowl that will be played in the New York/New Jersey area has given other cold-weather cities like Denver hope of hosting the event in the future.
“We are a city worthy of hosting the Super Bowl,” Broncos president Joe Ellis told the Denver Post this week. “It’s definitely something we’re looking at.”
Goodell said that while he is all for playing the game in all sorts of weather elements, the league will look at the New York/New Jersey Super Bowl to determine its plans going forward.
“I’m a big believer that the game of football is played in all elements,” Goodell said. “We see it, and some our classic games were played in snow or ice or cold. … We do have another side, which is they believe that when you get to the Super Bowl, it should be played in conditions that are not impacted by weather. That’s a balancing act. We’re going to play an outdoor game in new York, in 2014 for the Super Bowl. … Let’s see how that event comes off. We think it’s going to be very positive and let’s go from there.”
The Broncos front office will be watching that event closely, hoping it will open the door for cities such as Denver to enter the Super Bowl hosting rotation.
“Who wouldn’t want the Super Bowl?” Ellis said to the Denver Post. “I think it would be great for Denver, and our city deserves an event like that.”

Denver Broncos' Five Most Underrated Plays of 2011 - Predominantly Orange
Home » Broncos » Denver Broncos’ Five Most Underrated Plays of 2011
Wesley Woodyard came up with an underrated play for the Denver Broncos (Brace Hemmelgarn-US PRESSWIRE)
We all remember the Denver Broncos‘ big plays from 2011. Thrilling Tim Tebow touchdown runs, monstrous Matt Prater field goals, and deep touchdown strikes to Demaryius Thomas to recall a few. Those plays will be running on the highlight reels of our minds as the off-season story lines turn from the Super Bowl to the draft to training camp. Let’s take a moment, though, and look at five plays that were critical to the Broncos’ success this season even if they were supporting scenes to the drama of this incredible season.
5. Tim Tebow avoids a safety vs. New England Patriots
The Setup: The Broncos were backed up deep in their own territory to start the 4th quarter. After a holding penalty and a run for no gain, the Broncos had second-and-14 from the Denver 4.
The Play: Tebow faked a hand off to Willis McGahee and looked to pass. Patriots defensive end Brandon Deaderick was able to force left guard Zane Beadles off balance and wrap up and strip Tebow of the ball 5 yards into the Broncos end zone. In what looked looked to be a sure safety (or New England touchdown), Tebow spun away from Deaderick, tracked down the ball, picked it up just in front of the end line, and fired a pass in the direction of Demaryius Thomas for what might be the most impressive incompletion you’ll ever witness.
The Context: The Broncos could not convert on thrid-and-14 and traded punts with the Patriots. On the Broncos’ next possession, the offense was able to generate a scoring drive on passes of 8, 14, 39, and 34 yards by Tebow, capped by his 2-yard touchdown run. With 8:41 left in the 4th quarter and the Broncos down 34-23, thoughts of another remarkable comeback were on the minds of Broncos fans. Tom Brady and the Patriots offense, however, quickly marched down the field for the final score of 41-23.
4. Mario Haggan’s interception return for a touchdown vs. Minnesota Vikings
The Setup: The Vikings were beginning a drive deep in their own territory in the first quarter and had second-and-8 from the Minnesota 9.
The Play: Denver lined up defensively with linebacker Mario Haggan positioned over the top of the tight end who dropped back into zone coverage. Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder never saw Haggan in the throwing lane and threw the ball right to the linebacker who rumbled 16 yards for a touchdown.
The Context: This play was critical for two key reasons. First and foremost, it gave the Broncos a 7-2 lead on a day that saw the offense struggle mightily during the first half (45 yards, 1 first down, 1 safety allowed, 1 fumble lost). Secondly, Mario Haggan was filling in for the injured Von Miller. For all the excellent play Miller contributed to the Broncos this season, his focus on pass rush often saw him struggle in coverage. By overloading the defensive front with Haggan and defensive end Elvis Dumervil, Ponder never anticipated that Haggan would drop back into pass coverage. It’s very likely that if Miller had played in this game, his assignment would have been to rush the quarterback freeing up that passing lane. This was an excellent design by defensive coordinator Dennis Allen to utilize the all-around skill of Haggan to force a turnover and to keep the Broncos in a game they would eventually win 35-32.
3. Von Miller’s tackle for a loss vs. San Diego Chargers (2:05 of video link)
The Setup: Late in overtime, San Diego running back Ryan Matthews broke free for a 14-yard gain to the Denver 35. The Chargers oddly selected a very conservative set of play calls for this series: Matthews for a 3-yard gain on first down followed by a run of 1 yard by running back Mike Tolbert. This setup third-and-6 at the Denver 31.
The Play: The Chargers elected a safe run once again with quarterback Philip Rivers handing off to Tolbert again. Tolbert, seeing that the Broncos were trying to crowd the line of scrimmage tried to bounce the run outside only to be met in the backfield by Von Miller for a 4-yard loss. Instead of a 49-yard field goal attempt for San Diego placekicker Nick Novak, the try was pushed back to 53 yards and ended up pushing wide right. The Broncos rushed 12, 4, and 24 yards to setup Matt Prater’s 37-yard field goal. Broncos win 16-13.
The Context: Despite struggling much of the year in the run support department, Miller was able to shed two blockers to make a diving stop of Tolbert in the back field. It’s tough to tell if Novak’s attempt would have been good if the Chargers had simply had no gain on the play, but in all likelihood, Miller’s tackle pushed the Chargers out of field goal range. Let’s not forget either that this play took place after Miller had two torn ligaments in his thumb that would require surgery to insert pins to stabilize the injury.
2. Daniel Fells‘ diving catch vs. Miami Dolphins (2:34 of video link)
The Setup: The Broncos had a difficult time finding any rhythm offensively in Tebow’s first start of 2011. With less than 3 minutes remaining in the game, they were able to find the end zone and recover the ensuing onside kick. The Broncos were again driving in Dolphins territory and with under a minute to go at the Miami 31, the Broncos had second-and-10.
The Play: Tebow lined up in the shotgun with 3 receivers to the left side of the formation. Broncos tight end Daniel Fells ran straight up the left hash toward the end zone. Tebow fired a pass over the Dolphins linebacker and between the two closing safeties. Fells reached over his right shoulder and made a diving catch at the Miami 3 with 50 seconds remaining in regulation.
The Context: Both quarterback and tight end deserve the credit for this play. Tebow, who was having a difficult time hitting open receivers during much of the game, put the ball in a perfect location in coverage to give Fells the chance to catch the ball. Fells, of course, made this sensational grab to give the Broncos first-and-goal. Two plays later, the Broncos scored on a wonderfully designed screen pass to Fells and tied the game with a successful two-point-conversion on a quarterback keep. In overtime, the Broncos’ defense forced a fumble to setup Matt Prater’s 52-yard game winning field goal.
1. Wesley Woodyard‘s forced fumble vs. Chicago Bears
The Setup: Another incredible Broncos comeback looked to be just a pipe dream as the Bears took the opening kickoff of overtime and drove to the Denver 38. On third-and-7, the Bears were looking to set up the winning field goal.
The Play: Bears quarterback Caleb Hanie looked to safely hand the ball off to running back Marion Barber who was lined up as the single back. He made one cut back up the middle, squeaked past the Broncos’ defensive line, and looked to have a gimmie first down (maybe even a touchdown). Broncos linebacker Wesley Woodyard, however, made a quick adjustment and dove at Barber from the backside. Woodyard got his hand right on top of Barber’s causing a fumble that was recovered by defensive end Elvis Dumervil.
The Context: It’s easy to think of this play in terms of Barber’s fumble since he had a gaffe earlier in the game that allowed the Broncos an opportunity to tie. More accurately, it is Woodyard’s strip of Barber that deserves the credit. Woodyard made the adjustment on the play, got a hand in on the football, and caused the fumble. The Broncos promptly drove into field goal range and won on Matt Prater’s 51-yarder. Was Woodyard’s play a game saver? Sure. Season saver would probably be more accurate.

Tim Tebow: Running For Office 'Could Be Something In My Future ...
In a revelation that will surprise no one who can recall a time (last month) when he was talked about on cable news at least once an hour, football star Tim Tebow tells the Golf Channel that running for office may be in his future. In an interview with the network’s Dave Feherty, Tebow notes that “if it’s something I care about, possibly” he could see himself as a politician.
RELATED: Charles Krauthammer Gushes Over Tim Tebow: ‘I Love This Guy! I Love This Story!’
The item from Mike Allen’s Playbook, via Politico:
TIM TEBOW, ON POSSIBLE FUTURE IN POLITICS (to golf commentator Dave Feherty on a “Feherty Live” special from the Super Bowl, airing on the Golf Channel at 10 p.m. tonight): “I don’t know — it could be something in my future. If it’s something I care about, possibly.”
Tebow is only/already 24, so he technically has to wait a year to run for Congress. He has said in many interviews that football is only a conduit to helping people, so this makes perfect sense. And he’s already more popular than many other presidential candidates today.
The full interview airs on the Golf Channel (which is apparently covering football this weekend) tonight at 10 PM.

2012 NFL Mock Draft: Denver Broncos 7-Round Mock - Bleacher Report
After watching the two games against the Super Bowl-bound New England Patriots this year it is evident that the Denver Broncos need significant help in the secondary.
Champ Bailey is aging, and it is possible Brian Dawkins has played his last down as a Denver Bronco.
Dre Kirkpatrick would be a great selection here in the first round. Kirkpatrick has some character concerns, especially after his recent arrest for possession of marijuana.
Nevertheless, Kirkpatrick is a quality player and could step in right away for the Broncos.
Kirkpatrick has good feet, smooth hips and has great closing speed. His size (6'2" 190 lbs) allows him to line up on larger receivers and play man-to-man coverage on the outside.
In last year's draft Prince Amukamara fell significantly during the draft and we could see the same trend here with Kirkpatrick. If Kirkpatrick is on the board here the Broncos would be foolish to not take him.

Broncos have some flexibility for both free agents and the draft - Denver Post
Denver Broncos running back Willis McGahee (23) runs the ball during the third quarter. Denver Broncos vs New England Patriots AFC Division Playoff game. Saturday January 14, 2012 at Gillette Stadium. Joe Amon, The Denver Post (THE DENVER POST | Joe Amon)
Today's questions come from Matt B.:
Q: How much do you think the Broncos will spend in free agency? And do you think they would trade their No. 1 pick?
A: Matt, the Broncos have termed their planned approach to free agency as "aggressive, but smart" and said they are in search of what they called "value signings."
That would indicate they'll be looking for specific kinds of players who may be out of the limelight during the frenzied opening week of free agency. Last year, with an abbreviated free-agency period because of the lockout, the Broncos' biggest veteran additions were running back Willis McGahee, who got a four-year deal that included a $ 2 million signing bonus, and defensive tackle Ty Warren, who got a two-year deal that included a $ 2.5 million signing bonus.
Those were the only free agents who got multiyear deals from the Broncos before the opening of training camp last summer.
That approach was due in part to the fact that with John Elway in his first year of running the team's football operations, the Broncos wanted some flexibility moving forward and did not desire to be saddled with a bunch of multiyear deals that prohibited them from reconstructing the roster.
The Broncos spent some cash before last season on their own guys. Tim Tebow got a $ 6.28 million bonus that was included in his contract , and Demaryius Thomas got a $ 6.38 million bonus payment in his contract.
This year, Champ Bailey has a $ 1 million roster bonus due March 15, a relatively small consideration in the NFL world but still a check the Broncos must write, and Von Miller will have a $ 9.15 million portion of his original signing bonus coming to him March 31 as a deferred payment.
That's just over $ 10 million in cash already accounted for before the team begins its free-agency pursuits.
As of last week the Broncos had 54 players under contract for the upcoming season, including the "futures" players they signed after the season, a total that included all eight of their practice-squad players. And while NFL Players Association executives said at the Super Bowl this week they do not know what the salary cap will be for each team in 2012, it is expected to be in the range of $ 120 million per team unless something unexpected happens.
The Broncos, including money set aside for insurance and other benefits, have $ 101.4 million in salary cap commitments on the books for 2012, so they have some flexibility. They have 14 players with salary cap figures of at least $ 2 million, led by Elvis Dumervil's $ 15.6 million cap number and Bailey's $ 11.3 million cap number.
Overall, though, if the Broncos stick to the plan Elway has laid out for the future, the draft will be the team's emphasis in building the roster. It would be unexpected if they dived into the top tier of free agency, especially given the up-front cash that would require.
And up-front cash has been a consideration for the team in recent years, even dating to coach Mike Shanahan's last two years with the team.
In terms of the No. 1 pick, the Broncos certainly would be open to any offers that would give them additional selections to work with during the draft weekend, especially picks in the opening three rounds. But that said, unless the grades of the prospects at the bottom of the first round — the Broncos pick 25th — are similar to the grades on the prospects down into the second round, a team has to be careful about trading out of the opening round.
Though players can be found in every round of the draft, on average it takes premium picks to get premium players. To make a deal to move out of the opening round, the Broncos should be fairly certain about getting a player with a similar grade later.
If not, stay put and take the best player left on the board when their picks come up.

Super Bowl Blog: Tim Tebow, Madonna And Some SWAG CBS ...
INDIANAPOLIS (CBS) – From start to finish, day four in Indy was the most interesting.
Just mere minutes after I published Wednesday’s recap/journal/rambling nonsense saying it was impossible to get lost here, I got lost.
Yes the iPhone is great and all, but the GPS needs to become an actual GPS and shout out directions.
For all those times I told my old Droid to stop telling me to “turn around at the next left” (more like yelled and used other words other than “stop”), I am ready to apologize.
Google Maps is good, but talk to me!
Somewhere behind that small working man is Tim Tebow. (Photo by Andy Gresh/CBS)
It was another busy day on Radio Row, with even more celebrities and athletes arriving. Tim Tebow was in the house, and brought a massive audience wherever he went. It kind of made it difficult to work in the already cramped conditions when he visited the Yahoo! Sports table. I took a few elbows to the head, but they actually woke me up a bit.
Madonna also made an appearance, after Rich Shertenleib asked her the greatest question of all-time. She commanded an even bigger crowd than Tebow during her NFL Network appearance, and it marked just the second time this week that Michael Felger got out of his seat.
The other was when Brooke Bentley came over on Wednesday.
From Joe Montana to Curt Schilling to Romeo Crennel, 98.5 The Sports Hub had a steady line of guests.
Crennel had to make some Patriots fans upset when he said he would have returned to New England, but the timing wasn’t right. At least Tony Mazz was pretty upset. Willie McGinest stopped by during the interview, and let Romeo know he still had another season left in him. I’m not sure Willie ends up on the Chiefs next year though.
Willie was also making his case to Chiefs president Scott Pioli. (Photo by Rick Raditz/CBS)
I also got a chance to see Texans running back Arian Foster, although I didn’t thank him for helping “Los Pollos Hermanos” to a Fantasy Football championship this season.
Somehow, I think he knew.
Although I hit a wall pretty hard, or maybe it was those elbows from the Tebow Maniacs, it wasn’t the worst thing I hit during the afternoon.
I’ll preface this by saying that, along with texting while driving, texting (or Tweeting) while walking should be outlawed.
As I walked back to radio row from a nice Papa John’s spread with breakfast (pizza breakfast at 3 p.m.), someone committed the aforementioned crime.
It caused a chain reaction where I slammed on the brakes (so to speak), and caused one of my first bites of real food to splatter down the front of my off-white shirt.
My credential covered some a few of the orange stains, but left the main one fairly visible.
If there is one thing I hate more than waking up early, it’s stains on my shirt while out in public.
Not sure why, but it just bugs me.
It’s that feeling that I would look like a mush for the rest of the day. I wanted to give the offender a $ 30 ticket, or even a stern warning, but the law was out of my hands.
Plus, I’d probably get a citation for eating while walking as well. As the law goes, I would have been at fault on the road for not leaving enough space between the two of us.
The upside to Thursday was some swag came my way.
In my five years of television and now one on the web, not much has thrown my way (you know, minus those game passes to the 9th floor at the Garden), and that is perfectly fine.
It’s not the reason I wanted to do this, and certainly not something that is expected.
But it’s always nice to get a little something, you know, for the effort.
The view from Hinkle Fieldhouse as Butler takes on Wright States. (Photo by Matt Geagan/CBS)
The Super Bowl people are making sure the media remains happy.
I got a nice Super Bowl XLVI mini-helmet, something that will either stay on my desk or get stolen by my younger brother, and a free ticket to the Butler-Wright State game.
I went to the game with fellow basketball junkie Chris Gobielle, one of the WBZ-TV photogs, and enjoyed it immensely.
Brad Stevens runs a great program, despite their now 13-11 record, and it was fun to see a game at the Hinkle Fieldhouse, a very old-school basketball arena.
The place had a great atmosphere, although the Wright State student section was louder than the Dawg Pound.
While the 64-53 Butler victory was not a showstopper by any stretch, it was nice to see Stevens’ system up close; a very classic, Princeton-style offense where everyone touches the ball, and everyone needs to be moving as a unit.
It was nice to talk with some Butler alums, and even a converted Indiana fan.
The quote of the night came after the Raiders Cole Darling hit a nearly full-court shot to end the first half, and a Bulldog fan behind us casually said “Well, I hope that’s the last three they hit.”
Catching the game was a nice relaxing escape from all the Super Bowl hoopla, and a glimpse at how much the college game is enjoyed in another part of the country.
Upon returning to the lovely Hilton, opting to stay in and see if the Clippers Blake Griffin can produce another poster-friendly dunk against the Denver Nuggets, another surprise awaited me in the room.
Apparently the Hilton staff reads my blog (so they’re the ones!) and liked my kind words.
Some chips, dip, a few beverages and a wonderful note greeted me, capping off a tiring, yet great day in Indy.
Now if people would just stop saying “Have A Super Day,” all would be right.

Tim Tebow leads one back to Madden Bowl XVIII - CNN
Defender Tim Tebow, No. 15 Denver Broncos, said: "To be in the Madden Bowl, it's really an honor."
main story
- Tim Tebow was part of three members of the "Power Team" in the EA Sports' Madden Bowl XVIII
- defender said he was just happy to be part of this tournament, video games
- EA NFL is still the big names in the tournament, even after hanging their ducks
Editors Note: John Gaudiosi is a co-founder and chief editor Gamerlive.tv video fixed network. He covered the video game for hundreds of shops for the past 20 years and specializes in the convergence of Hollywood and games
(CNN) - Denver Broncos defender Tim Tebow is involved in a big game in Indianapolis, where he helped his team more miraculous return to run in the fourth quarter, and finally ending
But action does not take place in Lucas Oil Stadium, the home Super Bowl XLVI. It was a virtual war on a soccer field EA Sports' Madden Bowl XVIII to play on the Xbox 360-room Bud Light.
Tebow was part of the three members of the "Power Team," which is New Orleans Saints defender Drew Breeze and his teammate and the heavy side, Jimmy Graham appears. The trio beat the "Rookie Team" 16-13 in a dramatic return, send Justin Blackmon (wide receiver, Oklahoma State University) Robert Griffin III (defender, Baylor University) and LaMichael James (running back, Oregon State University) at home without the coveted trophy.
Bouillon admitted that Tebow "bring the magic," although in the rotation, it was a sauce, a defender who played in that last drive with Tebow plays wide receiver. Tebow, on the cover of EA Sports NCAA Football was 11, said he was just happy to be part of this video game tournament
"This is humiliated by the other great athletes and players here be just around them, make friends with them to continue to build relationships. it's great, "said Tebow." And then all the opportunities we have to be in the Madden game, to the Madden Bowl to be, it's really a great honor. "
even experienced players like San Diego Charzhers heavy end of the Antonio Gates were drawn to the virtual competition, which offers something much more important than a trophy
."Madden Bowl is popular because it is still competitive," said Gates' We have built on the competition. Our performance in the competition and win. When you come here, you can see the other players and enjoy the holidays. But deep everyone, do you want the ball to win Maddie. Even though not all the news, you still want to brag rights "
Gates said he and the Jacksonville Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew, the Madden Bowl XVI. Time to talk about the competition this year, while in Hawaii, the Pro Bowl last weekend
."It's like a Super Bowl," said Miami Dolphins wide receiver and Pro Bowl MVP Brandon Marshall "A lot of guys take pride in their game of Madden. and the commitment made. And it is always fun to see. "
EA NFL continues to be the big names in the tournament, even to the side of their plates Madden Legends team Hall of Famer Barry Sanders and Deion Sanders and Warren Sapp appeared. Who retired in 2008
"When they come out with four buttons on the front, it was when I stopped playing Madden," Sapp said, laughing "It was just too much. It was just too much"
competition, which Sapp said it was absolutely brand new when he played in the NFL, it was too much for this trio. No. But they are at the center instead of sports video games, they are still I love to watch.
a constant influx of new talent, new entrants tend to have the edge with the skills of video games, as many have already weaned complex controllers, Atari and Nintendo generation had to learn. But as fans see the real field nothing beats the experience and knowledge of soccer
. "Play Madden Bowl is an amazing experience," said the veteran of the Houston Texans Arian Foster, who in the All-Madden team in the tournament ran this year. "The guys in the locker room and say," Hey, I only had one murder you in Madden. So it's a strange feeling, and Maddy helped me get the name I have today. I appreciate it. "
Denver Broncos Linebacker Von Miller, the party locating the high definition that" playing the game "during Super Bowl week to watch.
" This is crazy in Madden, "said the NFL rookie Miller." It's a dream I've always dreamed of playing in the NFL and Madden is just amazing. I only play Madden, so it's a big deal. " Not everyone is satisfied with the outcome in the Madden Bowl XVIII. Perhaps no player in the video game tournament took more seriously than Jones-Drew. He Madden said he was playing every day and every time to prepare for the game. He was not happy with the format change in player vs. player of the three-man team last year."I anybody can beat one, who, like Madden games should be," said Jones-Drew, who was part of the All-Madden team of the San Francisco 49ers Linebacker Patrick Willis and Foster.
for Tebow, he did not have much time for it to be about video games. But he was just as competitive as it is on a real field, when it comes to. Madden Bowl, and his teammates."I enjoy playing Madden," said Tebow. "I stay very busy, so it's not that I do a lot of games, but I have a good time playing with my brothers and mates. And we get very competitive it. "
that competitive nature has already started with Madden NFL 13 EA Sports in the Madden Bowl announced the 64 players - two players from each NFL team will compete for the chance to be on the cover of the new game. Fans will have the last word again after the collection of the Cleveland running back Peyton hillis for a game this year.Tebow his magic can work again and decorate the cover a football match in August this year? Do not consider it.

Last Day to Vote For Broncos Von Miller as Rookie Of The Year - Mile High Report (blog)
The Denver Broncos top draft pick Von Miller is among the nominees for Pepsi's 2011 NFL Rookie Of The Year.
Fans can vote for one of five players on www.nfl.com/rookies through 9 p.m. Eastern Time today, to determine the 2011 Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Year.
The winner will be presented the 2011 Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Year award in Indianapolis, the site of Super Bowl XLVI, at "NFL Honors", a two-hour primetime awards special to air nationally on Feb. 4, 9-11 p.m. ET on NBC.
Selected 2nd overall by Denver last April, Miller, a 6-3, 237 lb. Linebacker out of Texas A&M had a season that filled the expectations of his draft status. Von started all 15 games he was in, with 64 Total Tackles. Miller led the team in Tackles For a Loss (19), Sacks (11.5) and Quarterback Hits (24). He tied Rulon Jones for the most Sacks by a Rookie in Broncos history. In Week 7 at Miami, he recorded his fifth consecutive game with a Sack, marking the longest such streak by a Denver Rookie since LB Mike Croel had a Sack in six straight games during the 1991 season. Von was named Rookie of the Month in November.
2011 Season Highlights:
- At Green Bay (Week 4): Recorded the ninth multi-sack game by a rookie in Broncos history with two takedowns, the first since DE Tim Crowder had two in 2007... Had two tackle for losses and three QB hits.
- Against the N.Y. Jets (Week 11): Led the Broncos with a career-high 10 Tackles (9 solo), including 1.5 Sacks and three Tackles For a Loss, in addition to four Quarterback Hits, one Forced Fumble and one Pass Defensed (preventing a possible Touchdown reception) in Denver’s 17-13 win over the Jets.
- Became just the 2nd player this season (LB Michael Boley, NYG) to record 10+ tackles, a Sack, a Forced Fumble and a Pass Defensed in a single game.
- In San Diego (Week 12), Von matched his career high with 10 Tackles, including one Sack and two Tackles For a Loss, in addition to a Pass Defensed.
- In the Wildcard game vs. Pittsburgh, Von had a Sack on a first down during Pittsburgh’s final Offensive drive in the 4th quarter which helped keep the Steelers from scoring and send the game into Overtime. He added 3 Tackles and two Tackles For Loss, as well as a Quarterback Hit.
The five finalists were selected for their outstanding performances throughout the 2011 NFL season. Each week, five nominees were chosen for the Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Week and NFL fans voted for the winner on NFL.com. Those results were used to help determine the finalists.
Go Broncos!
